Quick answer

The game has eight regions that join into one seamless world: Weeping Creek Valley, Crimson Forest, Village of Lu, Pangzhen, Mandate Encampment, Meigu Lake, Mountain of Imprisonment and Mount Soulrend. There is no minimap. Touching a bell reveals the map around it, and a red thread on the ground leads to the nearest bell.

Mirage Estate is a late story area you reach through the Green Serpent House in Pangzhen, so we cover it with Pangzhen. Map Master lists it as its own stop, which is why you may also see "nine regions."

How the in-game map works

  • There's no minimap. You navigate using the world itself and the full-screen map.
  • The map is hand-painted ink wash, with eight maps in all. Reports say it gives a rough sense of direction in complex areas, not exact routes.
  • Bells reveal the map. The first time you touch a bell, it reveals the area around it.
  • Follow the red thread. A red thread on the ground leads toward the nearest bell, which helps when you're lost or low on Medicine.
  • Bells are your hub. You can rest, fast travel ("Traverse"), upgrade gear, shop, train abilities and save at them.

Tips from the community

Players on the Steam forums have worked out a few things the game doesn't spell out:

  • Red and green icons. A traversal icon shows red on the map until you can use that route, then turns green.
  • Blocked chest or path? Come back later. Many need a Phantom Edge you get later. The first example is the chest on the broken bridge in Weeping Creek Valley.
  • Fast travel is free. You can travel to any bell you've found, which makes backtracking easy.
  • Enemies stay dead. Cleared areas stay cleared, so backtracking is quick.
  • Steam Controller map bug. If the map button does nothing with the official layout, players fixed it by rebinding the button to View in Steam's controller settings.

How to reveal a full region map

Touch every bell. Optional bells sit off the main path, so a region can look finished while parts of the map stay blank. In Weeping Creek Valley, for example, three optional areas hold the bells that complete the map. Each region guide lists its named bells so you can spot the gaps.

Which interactive map should you use?

Interactive maps launched within days of release, and coverage is changing fast. We checked each one on October 30, 2026, so these notes may already be out of date:

We don't run a pin map of our own. Exact spots need in-game capture, and we won't copy another site's pins. What we offer instead is the 100% tracker: no account and no pin limit, and it works next to any of the maps above.

Before you explore, check the missables guide. Several tales fail long before you reach the end of the game.
