Soul, the main character

Soul is the character you play, and you can't create your own. Here's what the official material says about him:

Who he was: an elite assassin serving The Order, a secretive and powerful organization.
What happened: he was framed for the murder of The Order's patriarch and badly wounded in the manhunt that followed.
His deadline: a makeshift cure keeps him alive, but only for 66 days.
His goal: find out who set him up and uncover a conspiracy that reaches across the martial world.

Director Soulframe Liang describes Soul as a classic kung fu movie hero: quiet, fast and lethal, "cold on the outside, but warm and hot inside." He compares him to Guts from Berserk and D from Vampire Hunter D. The director's word for this type of hero is xiake (侠客), a wandering hero who "always wants to help the weak," even though Soul himself has only a few days left.

A character called Soul also appeared in the 2013 game Rain Blood Chronicles: Mirage, described there as a self-taught orphan. Phantom Blade Zero tells a new story, so don't assume he shares that past. More in Rainblood connections.
